7th National Cross Country TitleFebruary 27th 2005 - In the small town of Roggel, Kamiel was able to take his seventh national cross country title. With temperatures below zero and a cold wind, conditions were harsh. For this reason, a leading group stayed together for a long time. With about 4.5 k to go, Jeroen van Damme, Patrick Stitzinger and Sander Schutgens successively tried to get away from the pack. Schutgens managed to tear apart the group, but could not get away from Kamiel. With about 1.250 meters to go, Kamiel made his final surge and in the end finished with an eight-second lead over Schutgens and sixteen seconds ahead of Stitzinger. Kamiel was very happy about his victory and is now, considering the number of national titles, on equal heights with Dutch cross country legend Tonnie Dirks.
